Made from Yak hair and wood, the Chauri is a symbol of the authority of Guru Granth Sahib. It is waved over the scriptures as a mark of respect.

NB The Chauri is a deeply sacred artefact and should not be waved about thoughtlessly. 
It is highly inappropriate to refer to it as a fly whisk.
