EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

In-Service Training

The Parrotfish Company offers a comprehensive range of workshops for children and In-Service Training for schools and Local Education Authorities.  We specialise in race, equality, multicultural and religious education.  We are currently working with Aylesbury, Hertfordshire, Lancashire, Telford, Liverpool, Walsall, East Sussex and Essex Education Authorities.

In Service Training

All of our INSET sessions include activities that are hard hitting, informative, practical and fun.  There isn’t any brainstorming and we use very few overheads!  Each course is individually designed to suit your needs.  At the end of the day each participant will have learned a range of skills that they will be able to use in their classroom.

This is just one example of our many full day programmes:

09:00 - 10:30

Welcome, domestic arrangements, and introductions.

  •  An understanding of the background to racism in the UK.
  • An insight into, and the impact of, the murder of Stephen Lawrence.
  •  An understanding of Ofsted’s approach to inclusion.
  • An opportunity to practice how to deal with racism from parents and carers.
  • A view of racist name calling and how it is intrinsically linked with racist violence.
10:30 - 11:00 Coffee
11:00 - 11:40

Persona Dolls
This will be a brief introduction to Persona Dolls, which are in our view, the best anti-racist resource available to those in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

11:45 - 12:30 Research Task - Religious Artefacts
Groups of three or four will be given a variety of religious artefacts.  They will then be directed to appropriate web sites and a range of books to research each artefact.  Each group will deliver a two-minute presentation on their findings.
12:30 - 13:15  Lunch
13:15 - 14:00 Kite Making - Paper Kites from Asia
14:00 - 14:15 Kite Flying
We consider this to be an ideal after lunch activity.  Each participant will make a kite and then fly it.  We will then look at how children might evaluate and adapt their designs.
14:15 - 14:30  Coffee
14:30 - 16:00 Multi-Cultural and Religious Resources
Each participant will spend time learning how to use Rajasthani puppets and how to put on a turban and a saree.  We will also offer examples of free and improvised resources and what to look for when buying resources.
