In-Service Training

The Parrotfish Company offers
a comprehensive range of workshops for children and In-Service Training
for schools and Local Education Authorities. We specialise in race, equality, multicultural and religious education. We are currently working
with Aylesbury, Hertfordshire, Lancashire, Telford, Liverpool, Walsall, East Sussex and Essex Education Authorities.
All of our INSET sessions include activities
that are hard hitting, informative, practical and fun.
There isnt any brainstorming and we use very few
overheads! Each course is individually designed
to suit your needs. At the end of the day each
participant will have learned a range of skills that they will be
able to use in their classroom.

Welcome, domestic arrangements,
and introductions.
- An
understanding of the background to racism in the UK.
- An
insight into, and the impact of, the murder of Stephen Lawrence.
- An
understanding of Ofsteds approach to inclusion.
- An
opportunity to practice how to deal with racism from parents
and carers.
- A
view of racist name calling and how it is intrinsically
linked with racist violence.

Persona Dolls
This
will be a brief introduction to Persona Dolls, which are in
our view, the best anti-racist resource available to those
in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

Research Task -
Religious Artefacts
Groups of three or four
will be given a variety of religious artefacts. They will then
be directed to appropriate web sites and a range of books to
research each artefact. Each group will deliver a two-minute
presentation on their findings. |

Kite Making - Paper Kites

Kite Flying
We consider this to be
an ideal after lunch activity. Each participant will make a
kite and then fly it. We will then look at how children might
evaluate and adapt their designs. |

Multi-Cultural and
Religious Resources
Each participant will spend
time learning how to use Rajasthani puppets and how to put on
a turban and a saree. We will also offer examples of free and
improvised resources and what to look for when buying resources.

This workshop
will focus on the use of Persona Dolls in addressing race
equality. The skills learnt in this session are transferable
to other equality issues. Persona Dolls are a great tool
for tackling issues of equality with children in the Foundation
Stage and Key Stage 1.
