About Us
The Parrotfish Company was conceived during a year long journey that began in April 1999 in Thailand and ended in India in April 2000.
As we travelled through each country, living and working in rural communities and experiencing everyday life and the excitement of cultural and religious festivals we realised the huge potential benefits of bringing together the skills and crafts of local people with schools in the U.K.
We also realised for the first time that many of the resources and experiences that we had given children in our classrooms for years were just plain wrong! A child in India would never put a tea light in a diva, a rangoli pattern would never be coloured in and stuck on a wall.
A plastic Hindu Deity made in China just was not good enough for our pupils and to that end we set about sourcing genuine resources from local skilled communities.
We didn’t take the easy route and buy from wholesalers, we sought out families who had developed their skills and crafts over many generations and in doing so gave these families financial stability
We buy directly from them at a fair price and in turn offer it to you at an equally fair rate. This means that we are all in a “win win” situation.
Thank you for choosing The Parrotfish Company.
Best wishes,
Andrea and Andrew Waterman
